Free and Safe Waterway for the Arrival and Departure of Ships
- Deep natural waterways enabling all year round arrival and departure of 300, 000-DWT ships are secured.
- Quay Wall depth of 15-18 m which enables the calling of the next generation large container ships is secured.
- In order to secure the safe voyage of arriving and departing ships, the Traffic Separation System (TSS) is introduced and VYS linked with PORT-MIS is in operation.
The most Optimal Container Transshipment Port situated in the International Maritime Route and Northeast Asia
- It is located in the main maritime route connecting Asia, North America, and Europe. It also has excellent port infrastructures. These strengths allow for this port to be a strategic foothold of transshipment cargo in Northeast Asia.
- It is the best container transshipment port equipped with a container terminal with ON-DOCK SYESTEM and vast hinterlands.
- It is the starting line connecting the Korean Peninsula, China, Russia and Europe in connection with TSR and TCR via Trans-Korea Railways.
Vast Hinterlands and Strong Industrial Foundation around the Ports
- Major ports of Northeast Asia, including Shanghai and Kobe are within a1,200 km radius. The cities with over 1 million population number about 50 and their total population reaches 700 million.
- In Gwangyang Gulf, the world’s largest POSCO Gwangyang Steel Mill and Yeosu Petrochemical Complex are in operation. The former produces about 17.5 million ton of steel annually and the latter produces and supplies 51 % of domestic petrochemical products. In addition, Yulchonl industrial complex is also in operation.
