Infrastructure
The lack of infrastructure for logistics has become a stumbling block for Gwangyang Port to advance as the hub of Northeast Asia. To address the problem, Yeosu Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries has built many supporting facilities requiring the logistics not only to provide convenience to port users but also to promote entry into logistics business by lowering investment costs during the initial phase of operation.
Hwanggeum Logistics Center

- Overview of LME
- World's largest nonferrous metal exchange center established in 1877
- Copper, tin, lead, zinc, nickel, aluminum, silver and aluminum alloy (8 items)
- With the headquarter as the center, LME members consist of exchange members, trading companies, warehousing companies, financial organizations and manufacturing companies.
- LME Headquarters does not own a warehouse. Instead, it has private warehousing companies run LME-designated warehouses with its approval.
- By warehousing and storing metal surpluses, LME warehouses distribute and control supplies.
- LME port approval on Gwangyang Port (Nov. 16, 2001), Busan Port (Oct. 2002) and Incheon Port (Jul. 19, 2007)
- About 400 designated warehouses from 12 countries worldwide are in operation in 43 regions. The LME-designated ports in Asia are Singapore, Hakata and Kobe from Japan and Busan, Gwangyang and Incheon from Korea.
- Acknowledging political and economic stability of Korea/ Increasing logistics volume by LME warehousing and forwarding/ Activating transportation fields through increase in sales that are related to storage operation such as cargo working and storage, etc./ Enabling domestic companies to trade nonferrous metal at low prices/ Developing new financial product of 'movable property secured loan' with LME warehouse certificate as collateral.
- Objectives
- To activate Gwangyang port by keeping supply and demand of empty containers in balance and improving productivity of terminals.
- 2006 development project(Stage 1): 279,490㎡/Block 1, 2, 3
- Construction range: ground working only for block 1, build block 2, build block 3
- Only ground leveling for block 1/ complete ascon paving for block 2 and 3

- Objectives
- Due to the lack of storage for hazardous substances nearby Gwangyang port, most of the hazardous substances from Yeosu Industrial Complex are stored at ports far away at a significant cost of logistics. By building an exclusive warehouse for hazardous substances in the hinterland near Gwangyang port, we tried to tackle this problem along while improving the transshipment service for shipping companies.
