Container Inspection Program
Definition
Visual inspection and overhaul inspection are carried out so as to secure safe transportation of dangerous goods containers according to International Convention for SOLAS, with a view to encouraging compliance with international standards and strengthening monitoring.
Objectives
A safety inspection is performed for dangerous goods (classified by International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code), containers among inbound containers and transshipment containers to our port, with a view to preventing marine accidents and to protecting marine environment.
Foreign cases
Countries applying CIP Standard: The US, Japan, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Norway, etc
Countries applying CIP Standard- ISPS Code was established in response to potential terror attacks on vessels since the 9.11 terrorist attacks in the US.
- The United States has enhanced its port security checks and security assessment and may lay an embargo on the cargo containers that do that comply with ISPS standards.

CIP Procedure
- Checking carried- in Dangerous goods container
- Make a checklist for dangerous goods containers subjected to inspection Report to related organizations (shipping companies, stevedores, CY, and warehouse for dangerous goods) and the customs office.
- Inspection on dangerous goods containers (a person in charge should participate with respect to the case of overhaul inspection)
- Fill in a violation notice form of dangerous goods containers (if it is violated) Report to concerned parties (shipper, recipient, carrier)
